You’ve seen Ralphie run, right? The loved thousand-pound Bison, who roams Folsom Field before the Colorado Buffaloes take the field. It’s one of the better traditions in college sports.
Now one of the game’s most famous coaches is going to get to see Ralphie run for the first time very soon. There’s just one issue for new Buffs coach Deion Sanders, he’s scared of the school’s mascot.
In a hilarious vlog released by his son, Coach Prime admitted that he’s scared of Ralphie the Buffalo and he wants to meet her on her terms.
“I’ve seen all the highlights of Ralphie running out and the power and speed and authority and it just like one left or right turn… y’all know I’m playing with eight now, I ain’t playing with ten,” Prime joked about the loss of his two toes and his fear of the live mascot.
Coach Prime wants to meet Ralphie before he sees her run. He clearly hasn’t seen her run in person because he didn’t really know how the tradition worked. But he proposes a public meeting before their first run together because he figures Folsom Field will be so packed for opening day.
Since Deion didn’t really know how the Ralphie run worked logistically, he actually suggested an awesome new tradition of having celebrities run with Ralphie when the Buffs take the field. Sanders did say he wants his own Ralphie handler to keep him safe, which is very funny. At CU, those kids that take care of the mascot are actually considered and treated as student-athletes.
The Buffs first home game is against Nebraska in the fall but Prime should get a trial run in with Ralphie during the spring game.
