Mile High Magazine 04/23/2023 Distracted Driver Awareness

Guest: Sam Cole Traffic Safety Communications Manager Colorado Department of Transportation April is Distracted Driver Awareness Month.  Distracted driving is anything that takes your eyes off the road; it puts not only yourself in danger but also others around you.  Last year there were 65 deaths due to distracted driving; it was the worst year in Colorado history.  The main reason was speed, not buckling their seatbelts, or driving impaired.  CDOT is starting a contest, they are asking teenagers to come up with a :30-second public service announcement video that will convince the public not to drive using their phone, the winner wins $5,000.  In Colorado, our cell phone laws are a lot weaker.  The laws in Colorado are no texting and driving but you can still talk on the phone, the teens cannot talk on their phones while driving.        codot.gov
