Mile High Magazine 12/19/2021 Governor’s Residence Preservation Fund

Guest:  Coco Criste, Executive Director The mansion was built in 1908 as a residence for the widow and the daughter of Denver real estate tycoon Walter Cheesman.  Claude K. Boettcher purchased the mansion in 1923. After Boettchers died, the house was inherited by the Boettcher Foundation and they offered the house to the State of Colorado as an Executive Residence.  Taxpayer dollars do not pay for the residence so a preservation fund was set up to help preserve the history of the home.  The Preservation Fund not only raises money for repairs on the home, they also raise funds highlight the heritage of Colorado peoples, showcase Colorado culture, and provide lessons in history, leadership and civics as well as school tours.  To help raise funds they have a commemorative ornament that features the Cheesemans.  Alice Cheeseman loved to drive and was one of the first females in Colorado to have a driver’s license.  The cost for the ornaments are $35.      http://www.coloradoshome.org
