Guest: Dr. Ariana Hoet, clinical director of On Our Sleeves and pediatric psychologist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital On Our Sleeves is an organization that gives free educational resources to communities around the US to help promote the mental health and wellness of children.  Their goal is to talk about anything that will impact a child’s mental health.  The website gives the families information they need to help find the right mental health professional for their child as well as phone numbers to call depending on the state they live in.  You know your child best and if you notice a change over time, that should be something you pay attention too.  One in five children are dealing are living with a mental health diagnosis (this was pre-pandemic) and 50% of lifetime mental illness starts by the age 14.  The pandemic made it worse.  Suicide is the second leading cause of death from 15-25 year olds.  Building coping strategies, build health relationships with care givers and peers, and talking about suicide can all them feel better at asking for help.  Mental health is our thoughts, emotions, our behaviors.  Mental wellness means having the skills to cope with those emotions.  Mental illness is when our emotions, thoughts or behaviors get in the way of our everyday life.      Onoursleeves.com
