Guest: Dr. Ubaissi Optum Colorado Sleep is very important because absolute lack of sleep will lead to death.  Lack of sleep can also affect memory and have an impact on overall health.  Our need for hour of sleep decreases, as we get older.  A infants needs around 16 hours, a toddler to preteen needs 10-14, teenagers they need 8-10 hours and adults 4-7 hours of sleep. A majority of people need 7 hours of sleep.  The only way to diagnose if someone has sleep apnea they need to do a sleep study.  If someone is having problems sleeping, if they are doing everything they should be the next step is to.
