Schefter: 49ers and Kaepernick are headed towards divorce

While news came down mid-day on Wednesday that veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer was headed to Denver to meet with the Broncos, ESPN’s Adam Schefter explains that this doesn’t mean a Colin Kaepernick trade is still out of the question.
“I had people calling me yesterday that the Browns and Eagles would get the deal done,” said Schefter, with “Sandy and Stokley”, on 104.3 The Fan in Denver. “Of course, the deal came together and got done.
“The same people that were telling me that, three of them, told me that San Fransisco and Kaepernick are going to have to end in a divorce. Most people believe that is a difficult relationship to have to continue. They’re going to have to move him and if they have to move him, there is only one logical landing spot.”
The Broncos have had interest in Kaepernick for weeks and the two sides reportedly agreed to trade terms but the hang-up has been Kaepernick’s $12 million salary that he’s owed in 2016.
While Schefter believes that a visit from Hoyer could possibly spark up conversation between the 49ers and Broncos again, it’s still worth mentioning that Denver could obtain Hoyer for arguably half the press and not have to give up a draft pick.
