Schefter: “Pretty Good” Chance that Hoyer will sign with Broncos

The Broncos current quarterback target is former Houston Texan Brian Hoyer, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“He was in New York visiting last night, visited today,” said Schefter, with “Sandy and Stokley” on 104.3 The Fan in Denver.
“The Jets thought there was a reasonable chance they would get a deal done. Brian Hoyer, when he looked at the options, decided that he wanted to visit Denver before doing anything with the Jets. That would tell you that he’s definitely interested in playing with Gary Kubiak and the Denver Broncos. He’s seeing what’s happening with Denver before doing anything with the Jets.”
On early Wednesday afternoon, Schefter confirmed that Hoyer was en route to the Mile High City and that the likelihood the veteran quarterback could sign with the Super Bowl 50 Champions was high.
“I think it’s pretty good. He clearly had an interest in coming to Denver before doing anything with New York and Denver was fairly aggressive in bringing him there.”
The 30-year old Hoyer has played with five different teams since 2009 and has played in 43 games over his seven seasons.
“He’s an excellent locker room guy,” said Schefter. “He’s capable at starting in this league. He’s not going to be a Pro Bowl quarterback but he can be a serviceable starting quarterback in this league.
“If you go back to last year, he was benched in the third quarter of his first start and there were people who felt like he didn’t get a fair shake down there. If he signed with Denver, he would do it with the idea that he would get a fair shake.”
San Francisco’s Colin Kaepernick has been a prominent option for Denver, but would require a trade with the 49ers. An acquisition of Hoyer could be half the price and not require the Broncos to forgo a draft pick.
