The Air Force Academy announced tragic news on Tuesday afternoon.
Cadet 3rd Class and football offensive lineman Hunter Brown passed away on Monday. The school said Brown was leaving his dormitory for class when he suffered a medical emergency. Immediate attempts were made at saving Brown’s life, but were unfortunately unsuccessful.
“Our players, staff and entire Academy have been so blessed and fortunate to have Hunter as a part of our lives. He was a pure joy to coach and have as a teammate,” head football coach Troy Calhoun said in a statement released by the school. “He was tough, a great worker, and no one unselfishly pulled harder for others than Hunter.”
Brown was a Lake Charles, Louisiana native who graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School in May 2021. He was a member of the Falcons football team the last two years, both winning seasons for the school. Brown was assigned to Cadet Squadron 16 and was pursuing a major in management and a minor in French.
“(Hunter’s) mom and dad, Candyce and Dustin, raised a wonderful son who made each of us a better person. We love our great brother, and our thoughts and prayers are with Hunter’s incredible soul and his family,” Calhoun concluded.
Air Force announced it already has “a full complement of support services including Academy chaplains, mental health professionals and others in place for cadets, faculty and staff” to help with the grieving process.
Hunter Brown was 21-years-old.
