Clayton: The Broncos have an advantage over other teams in HC search

The Broncos took to the road to speed up their head coaching search.
They flew to New England to interview Patriots linebacker coach Jared Mayo. They are also trying to get through their other candidates. Overall, they have 10 total on their interview list.
One of the keys for them is that they plan to conclude the interviews by Sunday. That would give them a significant advantage to make offers as early as Monday. Where that is important is they will be ahead of the game against many of the other teams looking for coaches.
The advantage is many of the teams haven’t hired general managers. The Bears, Vikings and the Giants haven’t hired a GM and you figure they would want their new GM to be seriously involving in the coaching search. That will delay those teams past Monday of next week.
Dan Quinn appears to the most-popular candidate. He interviewed with the Broncos. He has four interviews this week, but those are mostly with teams still looking at GMs.
The interesting part about Mayo is the Broncos respect his leadership ability. He had that as a player. In his young coaching career, he is showing good leadership.
Hiring the right coach is vital for the Broncos. We’re getting to the point where they are getting closer to making their move.
