Fan host Cecil Lammey believes that if the Denver Broncos added quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the team’s roster would be better than the Kansas City Chiefs.
“If you add Aaron Rodgers, now all of a sudden you have a full roster that is better than Kansas City,” Lammey said.
Joining Mike Evans on “Schlereth and Evans”, Lammey went through a few position groups to get his point across starting with the running backs.
“Clyde Edwards-Helaire or Javonte Williams … well I’m going to take Williams,” Lammey said. “And if they were in the same class I would take Williams ahead.”
As Lammey reported, Williams runs with plenty of violence as evidenced by his 75 broken tackles for the Tarheels in 2020. Williams worked better as a receiver last year and could be a lead back with the Broncos.
Now who can beat Tyreek Hill? In 2020 Hill did a lot of damage through the air with 87 receptions (135 targets) for 1276 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Everyone can expect that he will once again be a top target for Mahomes, but the depth behind him is shallow.
“Tyreek Hill is tough to beat, but you’ve got Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler and Tim Patrick — those four receivers are better than Mecole Hardman or Demarcus Robinson or Byron Pringle,” Lammey said.
Travis Kelce is better than Noah Fant, but Lammey said Fant is “up and coming”. Kelce has been steady from 2016-2020, breaking 1,000 receiving yards, scoring at least four touchdowns and making the Pro Bowl in each season.
The Chiefs were quick to protect Patrick Mahomes for this upcoming season by adding five new offensive linemen, but the defensive side is where the Broncos are thriving.
“I go over to the defensive side and I look at what the Broncos have compared to Frank Clark, Chris Jones, Jarran Reed, these guys are good players,” Lammey said. “But I look more at what the Broncos have in Bradley Chubb, in Von Miller, and in Shelby Harris. Inside linebacker is a weakness … but you take secondary for the Broncos, it’s better than the secondary for the Chiefs.”
So if the Broncos pull off a trade for Rodgers, the AFC West will have a shakeup and Denver could snap their 11 game losing streak to Kansas City.
“I stand by what I said. If they add Aaron Rodgers, the Broncos are now better than Kansas City,” Lammey said.
